Aged Care Consultancy

Gaye has worked with aged care facilities for over 15 years.

She provides the following range of services both locally in the Manawatu/Horowhenua and nationally.

For individual residents:

 

  • Nutrition assessments and recommendations for residents at risk of malnutrition or who have chronic or acute disease
  • Review of tube feeding regimes (PEG or nasogastric)
  • Applications for Special Authorities and prescriptions for nutrition supplements

 

At a facility level:

 

  • Development of policy and systems for assessing, monitoring and managing malnutrition
  • Providing policy and guidelines for managing residents who have diabetes, are overweight or underweight or who need texture modified diets (from both a kitchen and ward perspective)
  • Menu planning
  • Menu audits
  • Staff training including: food safety, malnutrition, management of diabetes in older people, texture modified diets, nutrition and dementia, nutrition and wound care.

 

Professional involvement

 

Gaye is co-convenor of SING (Dietitians NZ Special Interest Group in Nutrition and Gerontology). She has actively been involved in the development and review of Dietitians NZ Menu Audit Tool since 2006.

Gaye is a member of the Health of Older People Network for the Central TAS (Lower Nth Island DHB’s Technical Advisory Service) and was a member of the Ministry of Health’s Advisory Group for the development of the National Dementia Care Pathways Framework 2012-2013.

She has written for various publications including Insite, Best of Times and Alzheimer’s magazines and Dietitians NZ quarterly e-bulletin for aged care facilities.
